Epoxy flooring questions and answers

How much does epoxy flooring cost in Adelaide?

It depends on the area, slab condition, repairs and system. Typical Australian market ranges run from about A$55 to A$180 per square metre, which is general guidance and not a quote. Our cost guide explains the drivers, and we quote after a free on-site assessment.

How long does a typical garage install take?

Many household garages are prepared and coated over about one to three days, depending on grinding, repairs and the system. Cooler weather or heavy patching can add time. We confirm the schedule before work starts.

Do I need to empty the whole garage?

Yes. Vehicles, storage and wall clutter must be cleared so we can grind edges and coat wall to wall. We tell you how early to clear and when items can return after cure.

Will epoxy handle hot tyres?

A properly built system with a hard-wearing topcoat is designed to resist hot-tyre pickup. Preparation quality and product choice matter more than cheap kit claims.

Can you coat over old paint or failing epoxy?

Sometimes, if the old coating is well bonded and can be profiled. Peeling or soft coatings normally need full removal. We assess adhesion on site rather than guessing from photos.

Which Adelaide suburbs do you serve?

We serve metropolitan Adelaide, including Glenelg, Norwood, Marion, Port Adelaide, Salisbury, Modbury, Unley and Noarlunga, plus Mount Barker, Gawler and the rest of South Australia. See the areas we serve page.

Is epoxy slippery when wet?

Smooth, high-gloss films can be slick with water or oil. Flake finishes are naturally textured, and we can add a fine anti-slip additive for wet-entry garages and outdoor areas.

What does the warranty cover?

Workmanship terms are confirmed in writing on each contract. In general they cover installation defects where our preparation and procedures were followed on a suitable slab; abuse, rising damp and alterations by others are typically excluded. See the prep and warranty guide.

How soon can I park after coating?

Light foot traffic returns sooner than vehicle traffic. Exact times depend on the product and temperature, and we provide written return-to-service guidance for every job.

What is the difference between flake and metallic epoxy?

Flake uses coloured chips for a speckled, forgiving, lower-cost floor. Metallic uses pearlescent pigments for a swirling, glossy finish that needs a flatter slab and costs more. See flake versus metallic.

Will an epoxy floor turn yellow in the sun?

Standard epoxy can amber and chalk in direct sunlight. Where sun reaches the floor we recommend a UV-stable polyaspartic or polyurethane topcoat. See epoxy versus polyaspartic.

Is grinding really necessary?

Yes. Diamond grinding removes weak surface material and creates the profile epoxy bonds to. Acid etching or a light sand is not a substitute, as the climate and grinding guide explains.

Can epoxy be applied in summer?

Yes, with planning. We start early, keep materials shaded, check slab temperature and avoid coating in conditions that would harm the finish.

Can you do commercial and industrial floors?

Yes. We install heavy-duty, food-grade and wash-down systems with line marking and coving where required. See commercial and industrial floors.

Can epoxy be used outdoors?

Yes, with the right specification: UV-stable topcoat, slip-resistant texture and a slab that is suitable. See outdoor epoxy flooring.

How do I look after an epoxy floor?

Sweep grit weekly, mop with a neutral cleaner, wipe spills, use pads under jack stands and avoid solvents. Soft mats help in workshop bays.

Is DIY epoxy as good as a professional job?

Usually not. Kits are thinner and rely on lighter preparation, and they often peel under hot tyres. Epoxy versus floor paint covers the detail.
